Burcu Yalman, Pluribus Country Director for Turkey, will discuss the topic of “Gender Balance”, based on the chapter she wrote in the Pluribus book “Inclusion Around the Clock.”
“Gender Balance” has become a popular subject on the agenda of many companies, including mainly multinationals. However, the concept is still confusing and misinterpreted. Mostly, it is perceived as having equal or at least a well-balanced number of men and women as employees. With this target, we see many companies leaning to positive discrimination towards women in recruitment and promotion.
However, we also observe that although the hiring ratio increases to the advantage of women, the ratio of those who are employed, especially at higher levels of management does not increase. So, it seems that while there is more influx of women into corporations, outflux of women also continue, making such efforts in many cases useless. This has shown that for gender balance, while gender equality brings Diversity, only a gender intelligent management and work environment keeps the balance. To reach gender intelligence, companies should realize, accept and internalize that genders have different cultures, different languages, different leadership skills (communication, problem solving, decision making, managing) and aim to embrace and benefit from this diversity.
Along with special guest speakers Burcu Cantekinler, Global Diversity & Inclusion Manager at Unilever, and Mehmet Altioklar, Transformation Coach, Leadership Trainer and Ex Film Producer, we will discuss the Gender Balance concept both from individual and corporate perspectives; talking about our personal stories and experiences.
